I used to do Bikram yoga, I didn't last long in the class though. When I did it was summer and we were placed in a closed up studio with suffocating heat.
Well, the idea of Bikram is to do it in suffocating heat ;)
And yes, they do warn you that you can feel pretty horrible that first time. Funnily enough they took a straight guy to Bikram on Queer Eye For The Straight Guy not too long ago.
They have several Bikram studios on Manhattan (I got the impression you at least worked on the island?). Bikram NYC http://www.bikramyoganyc.com/ has studios on the Upper West Side, Flat Iron, Midtown and Soho, and one off the island at Bridgehampton. There's Bikram Yoga Chelsea http://www.bikramyogachelsea.com/ in Chelsea ;) and there's Bikram Yoga East http://www.bikramyogaeast.com/ on the Lower East Side.
For other studios, check out http://www.bikramyoga.com/. That's the official Bikram site, and as studios are all franchises that have to be operated by Bikram certified teachers, they'll be listed on there.
We'll be going to a studio up here in Elmsford which is close to where we are. We'll be in Manhattan for Kyokushin karate lessons though.
