So... ordered yoga bags and mats on Sunday. The bags are larger than the usual mat bags, and as such can double as bags to carry our karate gear in as well. Ordered a better fitting navel barbell so that things don't get in the way when exercising. Bought Brita sports bottles, which have the filters in them... cheaper than repeatedly buying bottled water, and the filter will get rid of the nasty taste and smell and other stuff from tap water. I now also have an order for a yoga shirt and shorts that'll be mailed tomorrow... snail mail because their site was having issues with the online credit card ordering, and because when choosing the 'cc transaction per phone' option, I couldn't get through all afternoon... so mail order and a check it is.
So we'll be good to go once all that stuff arrives.
The karate uniform and padding are part of the new members registration package, so I don't need to shop for that seperately. I do still need some shirts to wear under it, and a sports bra, because I don't think my regular bras are up to the challenge... the underwire would more than likely cause me grievous bodily harm during the exercises.
So, even though I know the first few weeks will be hell, I'm still kind of looking forward to it, mostly because I'm so sick of being out of shape, and also reading up on bikram yoga a lot is building up my anticipation.

It reminds me of the first time I did a sweat-lodge: it was quite a few years ago, and I immediately had an asthma attack and was hustled out of the lodge and looked after, then had to go and lie down. The next time I did it, it was incredibly good. Funny old thing, the human body.

Well, the idea of Bikram is to do it in suffocating heat ;)
And yes, they do warn you that you can feel pretty horrible that first time. Funnily enough they took a straight guy to Bikram on Queer Eye For The Straight Guy not too long ago.
They have several Bikram studios on Manhattan (I got the impression you at least worked on the island?). Bikram NYC http://www.bikramyoganyc.com/ has studios on the Upper West Side, Flat Iron, Midtown and Soho, and one off the island at Bridgehampton. There's Bikram Yoga Chelsea http://www.bikramyogachelsea.com/ in Chelsea ;) and there's Bikram Yoga East http://www.bikramyogaeast.com/ on the Lower East Side.
For other studios, check out http://www.bikramyoga.com/. That's the official Bikram site, and as studios are all franchises that have to be operated by Bikram certified teachers, they'll be listed on there.
We'll be going to a studio up here in Elmsford which is close to where we are. We'll be in Manhattan for Kyokushin karate lessons though.

But yeah, I'm aware that that first time especially is going to be rough. However, the more I read about it, the more I think the heat will be a good thing. It also gives the yoga a much bigger kick too.

I think I was just so out of shape and clueless as to what to expect. All the sweating should definitely be good for detoxifying the body, something I hope to do.
