Yeah, most kids definitely don't read the same things into stuff that we do, in no small part because they don't have the experiences to associate to certain behaviours that we do.
In that bookslut list there was a movie of a musical 1776 that got banned or challenged because there was sexual innuendo between Jefferson and Adams or some such. How many kids really pick up on that?
It's like kids seeing Sam and Frodo as good friends, and older people getting all giggly about the supposed homoerotic undertones.
I remember Neil Gaiman commenting about the fact that adults and kids had very different reactions to Coraline. Adults found it creepy, and kids thought it was a great adventure.
prostitution in Amsterdam. I thought the woman was pretty, but I just had the idea that men and women like looking at each other, and that this was as far as it went. It never occurred to me to think any more about it.
I'm sure most kids would have a similar reaction about 2 princes kissing. It'll occur to them that some people like doing that, but I seriously doubt it will be behaviour they'd read much more into, or parrot. Plus in the case of that book, the age range (4-8) would mean that most likely you'd be reading it with your kid and could explain any questions they had.
