Corsetmaking #7 & #8
May. 11th, 2003 08:06 pmFriday and Saturday night we had 2 more corsetmaking sessions. Both times we started late... Friday due to a teacher working late at the school being difficult about a non-student being on the premises, so we went to have dinner and waited for her to leave which was around 11.30 or so, and Saturday just mainly because I got there late after waking up late from getting home late ;)
Friday PreZ came along as well for company, dj-ing etc. Most of the stuff consisted of cutting all the boning down to size and inserting it into the corset. Sounds like something that should be done fairly quickly, but it isn't. Especially when the bonechannels are tight it's slow going indeed. Even so we were working on it until about 7am when we called it a day and drove home to crash.
Saturday I finished off putting the boning in the remaining section and we stitched the pieces together, and sewed on a temporary grommet strip to try it on. After ripping the grommet strip off the corset once and then having the ancient grommet strip's fabric disintegrate the second time Kit patched up the grommet strip with sturdy fabric so we could try it on again without hearing scary tearing sounds and such. It fits... yay! Now the homework I have is to handstitch some of the inside seams near the busk and the sideseams so that they're out of the way and won't fray and then next time all we need to do is do the facing for the grommets and do the edging on the top and bottom. Hopefully that's one more shop session and then we're all done, with the exception of taking it into the city to have grommets punched.
Saturday also was a 6.30am session, and then I got a speeding ticket on the way home too... I need to learn how to use the cruise control so that I don't forget to check my speedometer and find that while I've not been paying optimal attention I've gone all lead-footed and accelerated to well beyond my usual cruising speed.
I'm really glad with the way the corset looks, it's really really pretty. And so close to done too, yay! And I really wish that my computer was fixed so I could start putting pictures up. Hopefully this week *knock on wood*.
