like what the hell is the significance of the spyglass and who was the group and why were they at odds with Olaf? I would have liked a little more background on this adventurous group and why this was a secret from the kids. Aside from that it was a lot of fun. I liked it.

I think this is the part of the movie that really leaves it open for sequels. The book series is up to an eleventh volume so far I believe (the movie covers books 1-3). But it did bug me that you do get so many allusions to it all the way through, to then be palmed off with a photograph of the group including both Baudelaires, Monty and Josephine, and some vague comments and the kids inheriting one of their parent's spyglasses.

I am deeply disturbed though by the constant appearance in films of adolescent girls with collagen pumped lips.

I'm guessing it's natural, and not really collagen plumped (or by gods I hope so at least, otherwise Hollywood really needs to take a load of steps back). I hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned Peter Pan, which we got on Netflix a couple months ago.

Peter Pan disturbed me at times for different reasons... I felt it had quite a few sexual undertones which it shouldn't have had, and I felt a bit oogie when I realised that I was watching it thinking "he's kinda hot" about Jeremy Sumpter (Peter), who at the time of shooting was old enough to be the product of a very early teenage pregnancy if I'd had one :P I really don't want to think that about 14-15 year olds.

Oh. Olaf constantly making reference to Sunny as a monkey really cracked me up too.

Yep, that was very funny. I love the subtitling section when you see Olaf call Sunny a monkey and where you see her go "next time I'll bite higher" after she's just bit him in the knee or thigh or so. Hilarious.

And I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't like Denzel.
