Hmm... I've been wanting to ask you recently, but this reminds me. Do you have any postnatal customs where you come from? I mean mostly in food, but I'm interested in general.
Among us cantons we have the new mother dine on a Pig Trotter dish. Found a handy article and recipe-- http://food.asia1.com.sg/recipes/mea_20050313_001.shtml And some other links if you like to check vaious sources. http://www.momsinmind.com.sg/classics.html http://www.thestar.com.my/kuali/recipes/22beh0501.html http://www.makantime.com/indexlocal.html
Though, at home we often use more lean meat, and we try to leave the eggs in for hours, and hours, even a couple days. Usually feeds us for that long too, this dish.
It's really excellent stuff; at least, everyone in my family loves it. I personally can't wait--we'll be making some when my sister-in-law gives birth. I don't know if it's an acquired taste, but I think you might like it.
