Well, isn't that guy just a total catch. I bet women line up for him.

Misogynist fucktard.

What's baffling is that she married him at all. Wouldn't it have been evident from the start that he was such a prick?

Possibly. Though it's not unheard of that some people wait to unleash their full horror until after the vows have been said.

That's very true. My mom didn't know what a utter psychotic my "father" was till after they were married.

Of course, she'd only known him for 2 weeks when they got married. Blah.

Wow. Just ... wow. Words fail to even begin to describe the "personal hygiene" section.

Well, regardless of the 2 week timeframe, I know plenty of cases where the other partner is abusive and only really started up once they were secure in the relationship, and then they eased it in, rather than just starting full tilt.

It's like that thing about the frog and hot water. If you drop a frog into hot water, they'll try and jump out. If you leave them in a container and slowly heat the water, they'll stay in there until they die.

Yeah, I know.

The fact that he had her present each week for measurement checks is just crazy.

Because someone who signs this kind of agreement is already desperately emotionally vulnerable. She is exactly the kind of person who will be picked up by a demented bully and keep taking the abuse until she either kills him, runs away, or is killed for trying to run away. Clearly, both parties are deeply damaged; their damage (probably from being abused themselves) has manifested in different but complementary ways. It's easy to look at this agreement and think, "Clearly, the man is insane. Flee!" if you're emotionally reasonably stable and have not been battered down by years of abuse (or have recovered yourself enough to function well in the world).

The whole thing is fucking tragic, at least in part because it's probably only the tip of an intergenerational iceburg of emotional and physical abuse in both families.

I've seen the US described in exactly the terms of abusive husband and battered wife, with the public accepting every scandal and outrage because it's just become normal.

To be fair, she never signed it (there are empty signature spaces for each clause).

I wish there was a bit more information about the case on the page though.

She was married to him for 9 years *boggle*. That battered wife thing really makes sense in this situation. Makes you wonder what finally set her off to do something about it.
