There's a mailing list, the NYC Goth Outings list, that frequently organises all kinds of gettogethers and things to do, as a way to meet other goffs in the city outside of screaming at each other in clubs ;) (trips to shows like Cirque du Soleil, to museums, to exhibitions, "stitch-n-bitch" i.e. basically a crafty gettogether, a "geek-n-bitch" i.e. the geek equivalent, outings to socialise (we went to a tea outing with tibetan food afterwards, but skipped the club), birthday parties etc. it's fun, and a great initiative.
And yes, the paintballing has happened on several occasions, I think there were at least 2 trips last year. There have been several since I've been on the list, and we've failed to make it to a single one so far. Doesn't help that the paintball field is like a 2-3 hour drive for us, it's somewhere in central NJ. I think they generally manage to get at least a dozen people to go.
