We were blocking chest punches. Face is a no-no area, along with groin.
Plus I figured out I wasn't doing it entirely correctly, which also contributed to some bruising. It's better to wait til the fist is a bit past your arm and then to essentially push it aside/deflect it, rather than catching the punch with your forearms, which is what caused a lot of my bruising. Live and learn.
We always focused on evasion and utilised blocks only as attacks upon the vulnerable parts of a person's limbs and so forth. So we'd still get bruises, but they'd be on the inside of the fleshy, painful parts of the arms, and you'd get them from being the attacker rather than when it was your turn as defender :D
If my pay comes in tonight, I may make an appearance at training. I'm feeling all motivated by your pain *heh*
Heh. If you think that's bad, one day I'll show you the very permanent scars I have from similar activity.
Seriously though, I know how much that hurts. When I first started martial arts, I was a wee lad of nine, and when I would return home with bruises my mother would throw a conniption fit.

Date: 2004-04-07 08:42 pm (UTC)As for pain, it's not so bad really... I mean yes, it hurts when I touch/press it, but other than that it just looks a hell of a lot more heinous ;)
Had this happened a few days earlier it would have made an interesting "PreZ beats me" April Fools joke ;)
