Direct-Linkers Beware

So looking at my personal site usage stats I finally got pissed off enough at the amount of direct-linking that was going on from various of my fanlisting sites that I've finally set up the .htaccess file that will stop people direct-linking to my stuff. With 1000+ hits from xanga.com alone for April (and it's only the 12th for chrissakes), it was about time, and they're definitely not from people just randomly visiting my fanlistings that much... also I can't begin to count the amount of hits from some anime site/forum go-gaia.com *grr*.

It's also been implemented on goth.net as well, so people direct-linking to the forum avatars or main site images will also not be able to do so. It doesn't affect user pages, so those of you with a GN site who host images on their own space for their own avatars on other forums, or pics to show off on livejournal etc. needn't worry.

Thanks to silverthoughts for showing me the site to write up the .htaccess code, and thanks to prez for helping me modify the file beyond what that site would show as possible.

I'd be interested to see how much of a drop in bandwidth usage you guys get.

For me I'm guessing it'll be quite a lot...

Xanga.com users gave me 1000 hits so far for April, that splinder.it user I showed you the site of is responsible for at least 191 hits this month, and 1340 last month. That go-gaia.com forum is responsible for 452 hits so far this month.

So this is why I'm irritated, and finally driven to action (though I've been planning on doing it for a while now). And no it's not enough to put a serious drain on our bandwidth or anything, but it still bugs the shit out of me, and it's still bandwidth that's wasted loading shit up for other people rather than myself.
