Orange belt

prezPreZ and I are now in posession of orange belts.

As such, we took our first kata class after the regular all students class. Back to feeling like a fish out of water when loads of new different things get shown...

Yeah :) No more white belts... having a colour is a little recognition of some progress made.

Now onward to blue.

Right on! Contratulations.
Don't worry, you'll catch on quick.
And katas are some of the best part of most training- improves focus, hones your skills, and they are just fun to do any time.

Man, I need to get back into a Dojo...

Thanks.

Our shihan was mentioning the importance of kata at the promotion test, I think mainly because of the three greenbelts that were testing, only one was really nailing the kata (the only girl of the three, and she trains nearly every day and does a lot of kata). He emphasised to everyone that the basics we do, and the kata, are not things to slack off on. That every champion that he's ever seen has beautiful kata and basics, and that it helps you become a better karateka and fighter if you know your kata.

I like kata, even though learning it can frustrate the hell out of me, I like the way it looks. And it does teach you a lot of stuff that you can apply in fights, and moves that don't always get covered in basic.
