Some of you will have already seen
prez's lj post which references his GN Forum post in regards to a GN meet up.
For those who missed that, here's the low down.
Goth.Net meet-up.
Saturday May 21st, 2005 - Las Vegas
PreZ and I will be in Vegas for the entire week prior to that weekend, so anyone who arrives early can get in touch to do stuff with us. We plan on seeing all the Vegas Cirque du Soleil shows while we're there, so if anyone wants to join us for one of those, you could drop one of us a line to sort stuff out.
Why May 21st? Well, it's the weekend before Memorial day, which would mean we avoid the holiday, which is apparantly extremely busy. A holiday weekend would have meant people would have to book rooms/flights insanely early, as well as the fact that prices would get jacked up a lot. May is also the most temperate/nice time to visit Vegas, and we have this on the authority of various natives. Also, this is the weekend prior to my birthday, and as it happens is on or around the birthdays of some of the GN peeps I know are toying with ideas to come to the meet.
Quoted from PreZ's post:
For those familiar with Vegas, I'm looking for suggestions of what both the major event on the 19th, and the minor events during the week prior could be - remember, we will be including a dinner as part of the main event. For those not so familiar with Vegas, check out the free attractions and other indoor attractions, as well as some of the thrill rides and recreation activities. Be sure to click the 'comprehensive list' on each for more ideas.
RSVP'ing for the main event will be essential, and any money required (eg. to pay for dinner) will be needed in advance. Also, anyone familar with the Vegas goth scene, we may be looking for a club to go to afterwards, or even a DJ or two (and a possible list of venues) and/or live bands for us to DIY it ;)
We have decided against designating an official hotel, and/or trying to deal with the hassles of consolidating blocks of rooms. This is for a variety of reasons. There is a big difference in the price of hotel rooms. You can stay a bit away from the Strip or maybe a few miles from the Strip and pay as much for a week in a Motel 6 as you do for a night somewhere else. Also, depending on when you look, the various hotels offer some good deals that come with bonus stuff like discounted show tickets, a free night or spa visit etc. So if you find a hotel you like the look of, check their website periodically for great deals. Also check out the popular travel websites for hte same... they'll sometimes offer discounted packages that include flights/hotel and/or car rental. Obviously people will have to fit their stay within their own budget, and so we're leaving that one open to personal choice. PreZ and I will most likely be staying at the Luxor... it's a goth thang ;) plus we want to stay in a nice luxurious place and live it up a little.
Anyway, options are all up in the air, so chip in with any ideas... preferably on the forums thread.
Eventually we'll throw up a page for it, and set RSVP dates and the like once ideas have been formulated and things have been more or less cemented.
Viva Goth Vegas! ;)

Date: 2004-09-24 10:57 am (UTC)Of course it depends on what we do whether or not that will be necessary. If we just do stuff like existing attractions and hit up a buffet and then maybe some more attractions and a club, then we won't need to really plan anything.
If we're going to start looking into conference space with a soundsystem and organising catered food, then we'll probably need assistance.
Personally I'm leaning toward the buffet idea. All you can eat for relatively cheap... everyone will be happy.
