Corsetmaking #5
May. 4th, 2003 03:55 pmOnce you get further into a project, progress always seems a lot slower, especially when it starts being more detailed and precision work.
Yesterday I picked
darktor up in Manhattan and we drove back to NJ. It was actually the first time I've driven in NYC as usually it's
prez who drives. Nothing spectacular happened or anything, it just took forever and a fucking day to go the 3 blocks or so from the Drama bookstore to the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel (yes, a 1 lane entrance to a 1 lane tunnel portion is a great fucking idea to keep traffic flowing in midtown Manhattan!). The entire drive back to New Brunswick was slow due to traffic... I think next time we'll just fork over the money for the turnpike and get some speed going ;)
Collected some art supplies, picked up
ippagoggy and ate some stew (yummy Cherie!) before collecting gear and heading off to the costume shop.
The mission for the day was to stitch the 12 coutil pieces into 4 sections, and the 12 silk brocade pieces into 4 sections and then to baste one of each together so I could see how it was done and do the rest at home. It doesn't sound like too much, but due to the fact that it was just me pinning and stitching and ironing pieces (rather than 2 of us) and the fact that the room for error had dwindled down to about zero, especially with the brocade, it all took a long long time. Pictures for those who want them as soon as my computer is fixed (monday, yay!)... leave a comment or drop me an email if you're interested in the corset making pics and I'll email the link.
It was about 4.30am before we called it a night and it was almost 6am before I got home. It was interesting watching the sky go from the deepest indigo to paler shades of indigo with green and blue to pink and peach colour and then to a pale hazy grey while I was driving. It's surprisingly light already before 6am.
And when I got home
prez was actually still awake working on some computer stuff. I'd thought he'd have been long asleep already, but it was nice to come home to awake and talking company :)
