GN Downtime
Nov. 22nd, 2003 03:13 pmFor those of you who've noticed some downtime on and off over the past week, that should be solved now.
As it turned out the phonebox here at the house had come somewhat loose from the wall and exposed it's contents to the elements for sometime. This explains why we've had increasingly worse static on our phones over the last few months. Apparantly the recent windstorm made things even worse, which caused disruptions in our DSL over the last week or so and making the site uncontactable for short periods of time.
After getting really sick of it this week, we called Verizon and they scheduled a guy to come check our lines on Monday. He arrived at 2pm on Saturday. So 2 days earlier than we expected. Bonus points to Verizon.
Apparantly the wires had corroded almost all the way through, to the point that they were barely touching their contacts, and they disintegrated when he touched them. He said we were lucky we even had a dialtone. Upstairs' wires were still connected, but heading in the same direction ours were (same box).
So we now have a fixed phoneline and wiring, and thus fixed dsl connection.
