Ooo. Try to get all the software installed before doing any work on anything. Then image the whole drive to somewhere safe to save time next time around. :-)
PreZ said that in the case of windoze installations trying to restore from an image doesn't always work that well anyway.
Generally the most time consuming is the actual windows install, and some games (Sims)... the rest is pretty quick. Plus we have nearly all software that's downloaded from places (Trillian, Mirc) etc. in an archive folder on our fileserver for quick installation of all the smaller stuff.
