Busy day.

I woke up sometime before 5am because my phone beeped. Because I use my phone as an alarm and I was expecting a wake up call in the morning to prep and put the bird in the oven I got up when it beeped and was half way out of the bedroom before I realised it was way too early. Turns out it beeped because a voicemail had been received. Usually we have zero reception on our cell phones in the house (T Mobile, you sucketh donkey balls!) so the fact that it received the voicemail was surprising. More so that the voicemail was at like 4-5am. I don't have my voicemail configured yet so I can't even listen to the message until I do, which means a trip outside or so to get reception (T Mobile, I hate you!). So that's the plan for sometime on Friday ;)

If the voice mailer is an lj reader, call our houseline if you have the number, we have no cell reception indoors (Verizon Wireless, here we come!).

So I went back to bed. And was up around 8.45 chopping up some veg and putting the turkey in the oven. I stuck it in and went back to sleep until noon again. I was too tired to stay up basting the damn thing every 15-30 minutes, so I added some bacon for extra moisture instead. It seemed to work okay. Showered around 12.30, did a quick dash through the apartment to straighten up and was prepping veg around 2 when PreZ's aunt, cousin and her two kids arrived. They were going to bring a few desserts and sweet potatoes. They brought desserts for an army... I had 2 pumpkin pies, they came armed with a chocolate pudding pie, a cheesecake, an apple pie and a sweet potato pie. There were only 6 of us having dinner... and 2 of those were half pints that eat like birds.

Now most of what was left to do was technically short small things, but for some reason when everything needs to happen at once it seems to be so chaotic that you need like another hour to get everything ready on time. (We plied the kids with Finding Nemo on dvd... Success! )I haven't gotten that part of the hostess thing down yet. I was very thankful I'd made the pumpkin pies and pumpkin cookies yesterday in advance, that at least saved a load of hassle. So after running out of counter space, splattering grease on the floor when trying to transfer the bird from the tin to a platter (and causing a little fire on the stove) and using a gazillion containers to put all the stuff in we were ready to eat.

Kit and Cherie had called just before we started eating and were going to head our way via their home and a clean change of clothes, after having worked the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They joined us halfway through dessert and I fed them turkey and other stuff. The kids didn't even make it to dessert, PreZ's cousin's ex-husband came to pick up the kids (an hour early) and left before we plied them with sugar.

After food PreZ's cousin and aunt headed off home and the rest of us just vegged around the apartment and played with our stash of dart guns for a while which was amusing. I am thinking we really need to make it out to one of the NYC Goth Outings list's paintball games sometime, I think it would be much fun... but stuff always seems to interfere. Kit and Cherie left around nine, they were knackered after being awake since 3.30am doing all the parade stuff.
And now I'm sitting here, kind of vegetating, talking to a few peeps on irc, as you do.

Friday is a "do nothing" day, though it will probably become a "clean up turkey day remnants" day. Saturday is Keith's party. Yay! a party! socialising and all that weird stuff.
