I really love the new books. Having worked weekends in my cousin's fairly upscale restaurant a couple of years ago when I still lived back home (I worked as front of house though) it's nice to recognise little bits and pieces, and also remember the vibrancy of that kind of job. A stressful but very dynamic environment.
Back of house was always more fun. We'd hang there when for little bits at a time when there was a lull. And clean-up at the end of service was always a blast, mostly I assume because it was also not quite as strictly regulated as large kitchens would be, being that there were only 2 or 3 people cooking at any one time, and that was it.
I miss the food though, god do I miss the food. We'd get staff dinners at around 5pm before service, and while it was nothing as luxurious as what the diners got, it was some damn fine food. So the downside to especially Liquor was that I got really hungry all the time reading it, which I certainly expect will happen again with Prime. But it's a sweet torture I willingly undergo :)
I've been an on-off vegetarian nearly my whole life, and have been serious about it for the past year or so because I married a vegan. Reading Prime though? Nearly knocked me off the wagon and back into the carnivore lifestyle. I'm so tempted to sneak out without the boy and nibble on a little bit of steak because her descriptions of the food are just so detailed and loving.
