Funnily enough [livejournal.com profile] silverthoughts complained about people sending emails about wanting links placed on her site that she didn't want, though at least those were somewhat related to the topic of her site, but the method in which she was contacted was just pure spam.

So going through some email, I noticed this:

How about adding [company name] to your list. I found they have some of the
best prices on anime online.
here's the link: [snip]

Yeah, because our list of GOTHIC links and resources need the addition of a site for anime purchases...

I realise there's plenty of goths that like anime, and plenty that really don't care about it (much like the general population really), either way it's hardly the kind of resource that I feel we need to be pimping.

Anime has great artwork. That's what I like about it. There are the hokey crappy ones but there are amazing ones like Angel Sanctuary.

The guy actually emailed me back and said he didn't consider what he did as spam and that he considered that I use netiquette and I should have replied to him. What gall! Then he said that he was the president of the advertising company. I was so ticked off, I cited the definition of spam to him and I said I will complain directly to the company that hired him to advertise, Lakeshore Recordings.

The fact that he emailed you at several different of your email addresses, ones not even related to your fansite, numerous times makes what he did very rude. I doubt he'd like to be emailed at his home email address about business stuff.

Plus, if you've received email from him at least twice and haven't responded, he should have used his brain to deduce that you're not interested.

That said, the wording of how he wrote those emails is the worst part... it wasn't even so much a request for help as him telling you to put the advertising on, especially when he's sitting there saying where exactly you should place the banners.

Well, I lodged a complaint to the record company itself. He gave me the e-mail address along with some crap about how he's not going to waste his Saturday morning on someone's hobby site.

Yeah, I included that e-mail too, to the record company.

Yeah, doesn't want to bother with a hobby site... so he emails you at least 3 times... sure. Asswipe.

By the way, I enjoy using spamcop.net to report unwanted messages. Often I get enough random spam not to bother with it, but people who annoy me enough I'll put their email through it so that a spam report goes to their host/provider ;)

That's why I so many email addresses. I separate what sector of the world contacts me. I still have an even more private one for the real world folks. And my fansite address is so filtered. Everything not fitting the filters get tossed. But I do a random check in case there is something that got thrown in my accident.
