2004 in review: http://www.livejournal.com/users/tanthe/178613.html
01. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before? Give birth.
02. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I kept some of them, I gave more to charity, I switched out more household items for ecologically sound alternatives, I bought more organic foods, I bought a couple of veg cookbooks, I bought more storage stuff for the apartment (though we could still do with more shelving or other storage units about the place) and I researched birth and parenthood quite a bit.
The list of last year's resolutions is here, for reference.
Quite a few resolutions didn't work out like I'd planned, and I'll probably keep them for another year. I'll probably make another resolution post later on.
03. Did someone close to you give birth? My cousin's wife had a baby boy called Rik. (not the same cousin/wife as the one last year, but it is the same cousin/wife as the one from the year before that). Tanya gave birth to Isabella Elaine, Kristie gave birth to Tara Kate, and I gave birth to Dashiell Vincent. Yay, babies!
04. Did anyone close to you die? Yes, my cat Abby, which left me heartbroken.
05. What countries did you visit? None this year, but we'll be travelling overseas at the end of January.
06. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005? More self-confidence. More sleep :P
07. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? July 14, the day Dashiell was born. October 5, the day I came home to an email telling me my cat Abby was most likely dead. October 19, the day Dashiell was officially diagnosed with Cri du Chat syndrome.
08. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year? Giving birth to Dashiell, at home, without pain meds or intervention.
09. What was your biggest failure(s)? The avoidant and procrastinating (lazy?) part of my personality.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nothing spectacular, just the usual coughs and scrapes and morning sickness. Some post-birth tears/scratches and aches.
11. What was the best thing you bought? Nikon D70S
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? PreZ. For always being there when I needed him or not, and just for being the best thing ever.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? On a global scale: Dubya, for the third year running (that I'm keeping this tally). My mother's, for well-known reasons.
14. Where did most of your money go? Of the total expenses? Rent. And the usual boring expenses... groceries, car payments/insurance, bills. This year also baby stuff.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? The fact that we had a baby!
16. What song will always remind you of 2005? Anna Nalick - Breathe
17. Compared to this time last year, are you
i. happier or sadder? happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter, marginally, but there's a valid (and hopefully temporary) reason for that...
iii. richer or poorer? richer, I think. Or kind of the same.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Anything interesting? :P
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Procrastinating, avoiding.
20. How will you be spending Christmas? We spent Christmas with PreZ's aunt, cousin and her two kids. Dinner and chit-chat. Quiet but good. I also played Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on Alex's PSP, which was the game we got him for Christmas. PSP's are purty! I ran down the batteries on his PSP :P
22. Did you fall in love in 2005? I was still in love in 2005 with PreZ, and I fell completely, madly, deeply in love with my son, Dashiell.
23. How many one-night stands? None, just married sex0r.
24. What was your favorite TV program? Firefly, CSI (Las Vegas), Supernatural
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? No.
26. What was the best book you read? I didn't read too much fiction in the last year, a lot of birth/baby books. And I'm part way through a bunch of fiction books right now, so I guess I'll have to answer with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, as that one I did finish.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? I don't think I really made any musical discoveries this year, though I have a couple of pending recommendations from
darkvervain and
pitr to check out.
28. What did you want and get? A Nikon D70S, though it wasn't really a christmas present or anything.
29. What did you want and not get? Jude Law :D
30. Favorite film of this year? Batman Begins, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Serenity
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? 28. I don't actually remember us doing anything. Though the trip to Vegas the week before was kind of a birthday thing.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Being able to have seen Abby one last time. Not having had Dash inflicted with this syndrome. And on a more superficial note, more sleep in the latter half of the year.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005? Same as 2003 and 2004: Is "Blah" a concept? I think that changing that needs to be a New Year's resolution.
34. What kept you sane? PreZ
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Jude Law, no surprise there.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? The sad hypocrisy and spectacle surrounding Terri Schiavo.
37. Who do you miss? My brothers, my dad, my cat Abby.
38. Who was the best new person you met? I met a couple. Nadya, Melanie and Jacqui. The latter two by way of the goth.net meet up in Vegas.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005: I don't know actually. None this year I guess.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: 'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable, And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table, No one can find the rewind button, girl. So cradle your head in your hands. And breathe... just breathe, Oh breathe, just breathe.
