The fim companies get upity about piracy yet still release movies a good 8 months or something stupid earlier in the US. [Star Wars being the exception... go Paranoid Lucas!]
Well, they generally open the really big blockbusters at the same time, or around the same time (Harry Potter is another example, along with Star Wars).
Other than that, I never did figure out why the rest of the world has to wait so damn long. It used to shit me to tears when I lived back in Holland. You'd be a member of an online community, and all the Americans would rave about a movie they saw, and you'd have to wait 2-6 months for it to arrive if it wasn't a major major blockbuster.
