This morning I spent some time talking on MSN to a friend back home. A friend of my brother's to be more precise, a kid I've known since he was about knee-high to a grasshopper. Among his myriad interests he's been doing photoshoots now. So I point him towards a few people's sites... Nadya Lev, Viona, and then Lithium Picnic.

Imagine my surprise when I go to the Lithium Picnic site and find a post by Apnea explaining that the site is down because Suicide Girls is suing Philip/LP.

What. The. Fuck.

Anyway, if you ever wanted to own some nice LP prints, getting them now will support LP against this frivolous suit.

I read some time ago in either Bust or Bitch (I forget which) that SG is marketed as affording its models respect and freedom, but that its owner exerts a rather disturbing level of control over them. It made me feel rather revolted.

From what I gathered from an email from LP to an SG model who asked to shoot a set with him (many SG girls apparently don't realise that he's been booted from the site and all that), the models sign 3 or 5 year contracts. A bit much all things considered.

And I've heard that they don't pay the models all that well, nor the photographers when you factor in that they need to supply a set that's usually something like 40-60+ postable pictures. N shot a few sets with them and I believe she will no longer shoot for them. Though that's also in part because she prefers to do her own projects and choose her own commissions... SG usually requires the whole "undress during set" kind of stuff, which can be fairly limiting I imagine. But I think she mentioned that the money wasn't worth the work involved.

Yeah, it has been going on for some time. It's basically revolving around the clause in his SG contract stating that he wont shoot for competitor websites. Apnea's site is a single girl site, and by definition shouldnt be considered a competitor site, but SG is saying it is and is taking Philip to court over it as a breach of his contract and for loss of income because of him shooting for a competitor site.

Yeah, so I read in that interview with Apnea.

What a load of bollocks.

I think it's just jealousy on SG's part really, that he's becoming well known in his own right rather than as a SG photog flunky.

And they know that even if they're in the wrong, he with the deeper pockets can still win, if only by attrition and just financially killing the other party.
