Pre-piercing Saturday was spent looking for fabrics. Cherie needed to swatch for an upcoming show, I needed fabric for a corset that Kit and Cherie are going to help me make, and we needed fabric for the jacket that Cherie is making for me. We left Cherie in Mood to swatch while we went searching for various other things.

Success on all fronts.

Cherie walked out of Mood with pockets full of swatches. I found 2 fabrics that I want to make the corset in... both are Chinese brocades with bamboo print, one black-on-black for the side panels, and one light and dark grey on a medium grey/silver for the center panel. A picture of both together here, to show the contrast. No pictures of the jacket fabric as Cherie took that home with her, but it's also a black-on-black brocade pattern, though not a Chinese pattern, something that looks more period.

Kit mainly suffered from "I would really like this fabric to make XYZ out of...", but the large stack of unfinished and pending projects and the apparantly large selection of fabrics he's already hoarded over time meant that it wasn't really a good idea to add more work and fabric to the pile :)

A productive day all up, which was good.

*drool* the chinese brocades look gorgeous...

You can pick the chinese brocades up for relatively inexpensive (compared to the $20-30/yd I've seen them go for online in fabric stores) in NYC's fashion district. Both are silk brocades and I paid $9/yd for the silver one and $15/yd for the black. On an earlier shopping trip I've picked up a black chinese brocade with round gold medallions for $7/yd from a place that was doing a closeout sale (they always seem to be doing those though).

The guy in the store ripped us off a bit on the black, as we'd been there maybe an hour earlier and he'd said $10... and he'd tried to sell it for like $16, but then he took it down to $15. We didn't feel like arguing, and he was the only one who we knew had the black-on-black, so I just bought it anyway.

And now I just wish I owned my own sewing machine :)

nice current music, btw.

Thanks :)
