I love his reviews, the vast majority of them always have me in stitches at some point (with his LXG review likening the huge Nautilus cruising down Venice's tiny canals as believable as a gondola chase on the White House lawn being one of my all time faves).

His review of Super Size Me, the documentary in which the docu maker ate McDonalds 3 times a day for a month, and which reportedly is responsible for McD's getting rid of their Super Size policy, is hilarious.

Of course it is possible to eat responsibly at McDonald's, as spokesmen for the chain never tire of reminding us. Fast food is simply one element of a balanced nutritional plan. Of course it's the unbalanced element, unless you order the fish filet sandwich with no mayonnaise and one of those little salads with the lo-cal dressing; then you'll be fine, except for the refined white flour in the bun and the high intake of sodium. Eating responsibly at McDonald's is like going to a strip club for the iced tea.

You know, when I was working at the gym, I was quite shocked to overhear people regularly talking about having had breakfast at McDs/Burger King, and discussing going back for lunch. Now, these were people who were working out regularly. I remember one woman saying to another "I can't understand what the problem is. I mean, it's not like I'm fat, but the doctor says I have to go on cholesterol-lowering drugs, so we have to work out how that will work with my blood-pressure medication." and then saying "So I'll see you at McDonald's in 20?" She was talking to someone she'd had breakfast at Burger King with the day before. It really wasn't uncommon to hear of people eating there daily, twice daily, or 3 or 4 times a week. Weird.

Actually, we get much the same where I work, and at TAFE.

It's not uncommon to hear 30+ 30+ year old women arguing over their favourite meal in Fast Food.

Ohh, I work at Red Rooster... please don't kill me :)

Why would we kill you because you work at the fast food joint? It's not like you stand there force feeding people.

People really are insanely stupid with regards to food and its contents sometimes.

Maybe Super Size Me will awaken some of them to just how bad the fast food is. We can live in hope anyway. Aside from the fact that it's almost toxic to your system, it's expensive too in the long run (or even the short one for that matter).

But then, I guess it's also like those people who go to the gym and light up as they walk out... not exactly a good combination either.
