It creeps me out that there is such a thing as competitive eating. Like this country doesn't already have enough issues with gluttony and overeating as it is... now we need to see people cramming insane amounts of food into their gobs at breakneck speed. And people actually watch this stuff too.
What's worse is that they televise these eating competitions on ESPN, a sports network. There's some great irony in that.

Date: 2005-09-04 07:39 am (UTC)Those shows really do make me question the brainpower of large swathes of humanity though... usually within seconds you can already tell that whatever it is they're doing is a Really Bad Idea (tm) and it's so glaringly obvious there might as well be 50 foot neon signs proclaiming such. And still they do it.
If you want to watch stuff that will make your stomach roll, there's a show on Discovery or TLC called "How Clean Is Your House?" with two British neat-freaks. You see homes on that show that really really make you wonder how people live like that.
