The Facebook Stupids
Feb. 20th, 2009 12:17 amSo, I have a Facebook, as of about 3 weeks ago. Yes, I fail and I'm probably the last person in the world to get with it and join.
On FB, I have this Circle of Moms application, which is essentially all kinds of parenting forums. One of the ones I'm on, is a March 2008 group, given that's when Matilda was born. I figured it might be interesting to have a look-see.
I still have to wonder at the intelligence of some people when their posts are titled "Anyone with a 10 month old?"
...
Why yes, you dumbass, pretty much everyone else, considering they had a baby IN THE SAME MONTH YOU DID.
Oy vey. Can't even blame it on the pregnant stupids anymore 10-11 months after the fact.
In other news: Facebook totally beats Myspace any which way from Sunday, and sends it home crying to mama.

Date: 2009-02-20 12:51 pm (UTC)1. Myspace has superior blogging capabilities, but still nothing compared to facebook.
2. Facebook is constantly violating your privacy. The 200+ people on my friends list don't need to know when I comment on someones photo, nor do they need to know when I do anything I don't post actually. The privacy settings to block this behavior are buggy and unreliable at best, and complete fail for the majority.
3. Myspace never told people on my friends list what I just bought from their Amazon wishlist for them. Facebook did.
4. Myspace never contained complete ownership over a video I made and post a link to from their site. (a video they did not host.) Those same TOS did not claim that their ownership of my video continued after I deleted my account; but facebook did.
5. Myspace never sent me 400 emails a week for invites to applications that spread like hoax viruses. This is how facebook worked by default last year.

Date: 2009-02-20 03:32 pm (UTC)I've found people on FB seem to be a lot less into the adding friends just because they look hot thing that you get on Myspace... and I think that's because most of the profiles default to being completely private. I've also just found it a much better tool for keeping in touch with people. So many people who would friend me on Myspace because I have a nice picture, who would then never bother to really make the slightest attempt to actually get to know me.
Admittedly the "note" thing to use as a blog is kind of stupid, but I don't really use FB for blogging. I don't use Myspace for blogging either.
And a way to turn off the stuff when you respond to other people might be nice, but I'm also not doing anything that really bothers me that other people see. If it did, I wouldn't do it and I'd leave the site. I'm aware of what's shown and adjust my behaviour according to how much I want everyone else to see.
Myspace has also had it's own dodgy ToS stuff though, there were a couple of times when they've come under fire for changes or things that were unclear.
Anyway, most of my comments were from an aesthetic user point of view. I find FB easier and more pleasant to look at and to use, and better for what it's for, which is contact with other people.
Speaking of videos you posted, when I did a Google search on my name, the Contempt video came up an awful lot. How many different sites did that get posted on? lol.
